Success Stories: Vader
Vader is the newest member of our family. We adopted him from the Swainsboro Betty Gambrell Animal shelter on February, 2016. I learned about his sad story from the staff at the shelter. His previous owner could no longer take care of him due to unfortunate health related issues. He left his family in charge of taking care of his best friend, but they failed to provide him a good quality of life. He was starved, had mange, and was hit by a car (which he received no medical care for). They finally surrendered him to the animal shelter. The shelter worked hard to get him back to health by providing him with food, treatment for mange, and giving him lots of love. Together, the Betty Gambrell Animal Shelter and Emanuel County Humane Society worked persistently towards finding him a home. Unfortunately, people did not want an old, beat up looking dog and with a heavy heart the shelter had to schedule him to be euthanized.
When we found out about Vader’s unfortunate fate, my boyfriend decided that we had to bring him home. Vader did not deserve to be euthanized! He did nothing wrong, he did not deserve to die. The very next morning we went and adopted Vader. The staff at the shelter was so thrilled and we can tell that they really loved and cared for him. One staff member, even had her eyes fill up with tears and she choked up while she said her say good byes. I truly am grateful to this amazing staff for taking such good care of my baby and fighting so hard to ensure that he gets a second chance in life.
After taking Vader home, we had scheduled an appointment with the veterinarian to get a full check up and get him neutered. We found out that he was underweight, still had mange, and was heartworm positive. We got him all the medical treatment necessary for him to have a good quality of life and now 4 months later, he is healthy as can be. Now that he is feeling so much better, he is more active and he is really letting his personality shine. We found out that he knows how to shake hands, catch, sit, and is housebroken. He is one happy old man now. He loves going out for walks with his two fur-brothers (Happy and Jack), loves to watch his kitty siblings (Princess and Laddoo) be mischievous, and loves cuddling with his human mommy and daddy. We love our new baby and are thankful for all the happiness he brought into our lives.
